Sept 2002 - "Where there's a will there's a
relative", page 3
Once your will is signed and witnessed, give a copy to any
executors or guardians mentioned. Also, tell your family or your
executor/s where you are placing the original will. Many people
make wills and put them away without advising anyone else of their
location; their wills are not found until after the funeral and so
any special wishes, such as donation of organs, or particular
requests regarding disposal of remains, are not carried out.
There are certain times when wills may need to be altered:
- After a divorce or a change of partner
- If a named executor dies or is no longer part of your life
- If you no longer want a particular beneficiary to inherit
- If your financial circumstances or plans change
- If you decide to make a donation to charity
- If you decide to disinherit one of your children.
