Sheila Freeman
She has wide-ranging skills, both academic and
practical, attained over more than thirty years of working in
diverse areas, including:
- various small businesses – a retail outlet, special
accommodation home, and three glazing businesses.
- a founding member of the Williamstown Writers’ Group and am
also active in my local community, having been very involved
with such groups as the Society of St Vincent de Paul and the
Williamstown RSL.
- as a Bail Justice, Justice of the Peace, member of the
Williamstown Labor Party, and President of Royal Australian Army
Nursing Corp Association.
- Sheila has a Diploma of Community Services – Financial
Counselling (Kangan).
- regular participation in ongoing training with the Financial
and Consumer Rights Council and completion of various courses on
grief and support counselling, gambling and WorkCover issues.
- seven (7) years as a financial counsellor to construction
workers, and three (3) years with the City of Altona. She has
counselled clients on issues of redundancy, work-related
accidents or death (construction), drug, alcohol, gambling,
bankruptcy and WorkCover issues.
- co-authoring two books with her colleague Helene Richards: Money
Management for Women (University of New South Wales Press,
1999), and Bullying in the Workplace: An Occupational Hazard
(HarperCollins, 2002).
Sheila is available for speaking engagements to radio,
television and the print media.

Helene Richards
Helene Richards has an Associate Diploma in Professional Writing
and Editing (RMIT) and works freelance as a writer, editor,
researcher and publisher.
Her works include co-authoring two books with Sheila Freeman – Bullying
in the Workplace: An Occupational Hazard (HarperCollins 2002)
and Money Management for Women (UNSW Press, 1999), editing
and publishing An Anthology of Aunts: Growing Up in Williamstown
by Dorothy Richards (1998, 2nd edition 2002), and A Bushman’s
Story by Maurice Dunne (1993), and researching and writing the
history of the Shell oil refinery at Newport, 80 Years at Newport
(1996).
She has published short stories, poetry and articles in
anthologies, newspapers and magazines. She was Secretary of
the Society of Women Writers (Victorian branch) and editor of their
monthly newsletter for two years, is a founding member and
coordinator of the Williamstown Writers’ Group, and tutors in
creative writing. She is married to Colin and they have three
children.
